ReSieve Help File

AVAST

Use My Computer to navigate to:

c:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast\Data

Find the "avast4.ini" file and open it with Notepad. Scroll down until you find the line:

[Mail Scanner]

Highlight everything between [MailScanner] and ShowTrayIcon lines. Copy the below and paste it in place in the Avast4.ini:

PopListen=IP-of-your-device:8110
Trust=IP-of-your-device
DefaultPopServer=IP-of-your-device:110
SmtpListen=IP-of-your-device:25
ImapListen=IP-of-your-device:144

(You are replacing everything between the [MailScanner] and ShowTrayIcon lines with the above.)

Save the file.

That's all for Avast.

MAIL CLIENT

(example using Outlook Express)

Go to Tools > Accounts > Properties

Click the Servers tab

Remember to write down what is entered in POP3 and SMTP.

Change both the POP3 and SMTP servers to IP-of-your-device

In Account Name: IP-of-your-device:username

(So, if your original POP3 Server was "incoming.here.com" and your username is Mickey Mouse, you should have incoming.here.com:MickeyMouse)

Check the "My Server requires authentication" box and then the "Setting" button.

Click the "Log on using" choice and in "Account name" enter:

<username>#IP-of-your-device

Type in your password.

(So, if your original SMTP Server was "outgoing.here.com" and your username is Mickey Mouse, you should have Mickey Mouse#outgoing.here.com)

Click OK.

Go to the Advanced tab (at top of panel)

Change the Incoming mail (POP3) port from 110 to 8110

Click APPLY and OK

That completes the Mail Client changes.

ReSieve

Start the ReSieve GUI and click the Advanced button and verify:

pop3_port: 110
pop3_secure_port: 110

Click the "UPDATE" button

Restart ReSieve.

You will now have Avast and ReSieve working.

The Avast Inbound and Outbound messages will be on e-mails. Check it by sending e-mail to yourself.
